CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians Saturday announced the club has traded RHP Kerry Wood and cash to the New York Yankees. In return, the Indians will receive a player to be named or cash. October 15 is the deadline for the transaction's completion.
Wood went 1-4 w/a 6.30 ERA and 8 saves in 23 relief appearances (20.0IP, 21H, 14ER, 11BB, 18K) between two separate stints on the disabled list in his second season with the Indians. He was activated onto the 25-man roster Saturday morning after a 19-day stint on the DL with a blister on his right index finger.
The Indians are expected to recall RHP JEANMAR GOMEZ to start against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, August 1. He will be making his second Major League start after defeating the Detroit Tigers in his debut on July 18 in Cleveland (7.0IP, 5H, 2R/0ER). Over his last two Triple A starts upon returning to Columbus he has gone 2-0 w/a 1.80 ERA in 2 starts (15.0IP, 13H, 3ER, 1BB, 11K).
