Cat Power, Feb. 6 (The Music Box)

It's been two years since Cat Power (real name: Chan Marshall) released an album, and perhaps this seemingly one-off gig in Hollywood will offer some hints at a future direction. Over the years, at least by looking at her recent choice in covers with the sound of 2006 album "The Greatest," Cat Power has gradually embraced more gospel and bluesy undertones. Yet she's spending most of her time in Los Angeles now, and maybe the sunny West Coast has softened her up.

Cat Power appears at the Music Box, 6126 Hollywood Blvd., on Feb. 6. Tickets are $35, not including surcharges.
