BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: Stumping for Obama

Bruce Springsteen did his first two appearances for Barack Obama's campaign this weekend. Springsteen did a seven-song acoustic set Saturday at the Ben Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, performing "The Promised Land," "The Ghost of Tom Joad," "Thunder Road," "No Surrender," "Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street," "The Rising" and a cover of Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land." Sunday in Columbus, Ohio at Ohio State University, Springsteen covered The Byrds' "Mr. Spaceman" as a tribute to the man who introduced him -- former U-S Senator and astronaut John Glenn. The rest of the set was similar to Saturday's, with the addition of the Ohio-related song "Youngstown." Springsteen gave a lengthy speech before the "The Rising" at both stops, saying the country "needs someone with Senator Obama's understanding, temperateness, deliberativeness, maturity, compassion, toughness, and faith, to help us rebuild our house once again. We will rise or fall as a people by our ability to accomplish this task. Now I don't know about you, but I want that dream back, I want my America back, I want my country back." The full text of Springsteen's speech is available at his

website. Springsteen plays one more rally for Obama today at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

AEROSMITH: Mac Version

Another version of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith will hit store shelves later this month. This one, for Mac users, will initially be offered as a software-only release, allowing Guitar Hero Three owners to use their existing U-S-B guitars. For those who've yet to purchase Guitar Hero Three, the manufacturer of the Mac version plans to release a Guitar Hero bundle featuring Guitar Hero Three: Legends of Rock, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and one U-S-B guitar.

AC/DC: Small Consolation

Independent record stores have reportedly reached a compromise that will allow them to stock A-C/D-C's new album, Black Ice, without impinging on the exclusive deal the band has made with Wal-Mart. Indie-store owners had been threatening to import copies of the album from South Africa and then sell it for a price that would undercut the retail giant. Now they'll be able to sell vinyl copies of the disc and the single "Rock and Roll Train." Black Ice will be released on October 20th.

RUSH: Album Cover Comes to Life

The "Starman" figure on the cover of Rush's fourth album, 1976's 21-12, has been made into a limited-edition statue. Rush collaborated with the Knucklebonz company on the figure, and the company's website is now taking pre-orders for the three-thousand copies that will be released in late November. This isn't the first Rush figurine. A few years ago all the band's members were made into bobble-head dolls.

KID ROCK: Now Available for Download

We've learned some details about Kid Rock's deal with digital music retailer Rhapsody. It's a four-month deal, and you'll only be allowed to download full albums from his back catalog. After the four months, Rock could sell his catalog to another digital retailer. Until now, Rock's music hadn't been available for download, and he still refuses to release it to I-Tunes.

MOTLEY CRUE, VELVET REVOLVER: Bowling for Charity

Dave Navarro will host the V-H-1 Classic Celebrity Bowl-Off on November 13th in Hollywood. The event, which will raise funds for three autism charities, will feature Motley Crue's Tommy Lee, Velvet Revolver's Matt Sorum and Meat Loaf. The event also includes a silent auction to benefit the autism charities.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: Stumping This Weekend

Bruce Springsteen -- who's been off the road since the Magic tour ended a month ago -- will be performing at Barack Obama rallies in key electoral states this weekend. Saturday he'll be playing on Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. Sunday he'll perform at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. And Monday he'll headline a rally on Eastern Michigan University's campus in Ypsilanti, Michigan. This isn't the first time Springsteen has stumped for a candidate by playing solo acoustic sets -- he did the same in key states for John Kerry's campaign in 2004.

Springsteen has also announced he'll be returning to play the second annual Stand Up for Heroes benefit at New York's Town Hall on November 5. The event is a benefit for the Bob Woodruff Family Foundation, which helps provide resources and support for wounded soldiers as they return home.

SCOTT WEILAND: Second Solo Leg

RUSH: Laying Low

With their year-long Snakes and Arrows tour behind them, the three members of Rush are laying low and getting reacquainted with their families. Geddy Lee tells us, "Our wounds are healing and we don't really have a plan for the future yet." While on tour, Geddy played in a fantasy baseball league and came in second behind his brother. "The overall winner gets a bye to the World Series and then the winner of all the playoffs gets to face [my brother] and then you re-draft teams again for the World Series."

On Monday, V-H-1 Classic played nothing but Rush, dubbing it "Rush Hashanah" in honor of the Jewish New Year. Geddy found it very funny, saying, "Anything that involves Rush and comedy I'm all for."

NIRVANA: Kurt Not Going Up in Smoke

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Kurt Cobain's ashes won't be smoked as part of an art exhibit in Berlin, Germany this month. Natascha Stellmach claimed she'd acquired the Nirvana frontman's ashes in a way that was "kind of magic" and planned to smoke them to "set free" Cobain from the media glare on his life. Now Courtney Love's spokesperson Alan Nierob says the ashes were never taken and that the original stories about the theft were "erroneously reported."
